Supreme Court 2026 Round Up
#1
Already Passed Down and color coded:
Quote:Assylum: Justices sided with the administration in a border dispute that allows officials to continue turning back asylum seekers at the southern border.

Haitians and Syrians: The Court cleared the way for the administration to end deportation and work protections for approximately 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program.

United States v. Kyllo (Geofence Warrants): The Court ruled that law enforcement's use of geofence warrants (which track all devices within a specific geographic area during a specific timeframe) constitutes a "search" under the Fourth Amendment, thereby requiring a warrant based on probable cause.

Watson v. Republican National Committee: The Court upheld state laws that allow mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day to be received and counted days after the polls close, handing a defeat to Republican efforts to halt the practice

Trump v. Cook: The Court blocked President Trump from immediately removing Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook, marking a partial legal setback for the administration's attempts to reshape independent boards.

Trump v. Slaughter: In a 6-3 decision, the Court sided with President Trump, ruling that the president has the authority to fire leaders of independent agencies or commissions without needing to show specific cause.

Tomorrow:

Birthright Citizenship - Sorry, Trump. You're losing the most important one, AND THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE SUPREME COURT IS AGAINST YOU. You appointed 1/3rd of them! They just cant be intimated by you in the front row.

Prediction: 8-1 Against.

Transgender Athlete Ban - No more real Lady Bugs! But the premise of that movie will be ultimately upheld.

West Virginia and Idaho bans upheld. Title IX protections ruled to not restrict states from banning transgender athletes based on biological gender.

Prediction: 6-3 in favor.

Campaign Finance Reform -  No more financial caps on how much money state and national committees can put into a campaign on things like advertisements.

Prediction: 6-3 in favor.

Results:

Birthright Citizenship -  Struck down 6-3
Transathlete Ban - Upheld 6-3
Campaign Finance Limit - Struck down 6-3

Looks like a pivot on approach is coming for birthright...
Quote:We can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!

Does anyone else find it humorous that Trump is now turning to congress to get this passed?

Like isn't that what you were supposed to do all along?

Trump might as well respond:

"The Supreme court is forcing the constitution to only be amended by congress, where does it say the constitution can only be amended by congress? Well, they better do this!"

So... Show of hands of everyone who thinks there is 2/3 congressional support to end birthright citizenship?

Depends on how you want your answer.
i think 2/3 do NOT support the right END birthright citizenship.
I do not think the way they vote will properly represent their constituents. That time has long passed it seems.

I am going to guess it would be ALL DEMOCRATS and 12 to 20 Republicans. There's at least a dozen to vote against it, and I cant find a single Democrat to support Trump on this one.

It will be a "nay" vote around 228 to 205 and fall miserably short of the 2/3 majority needed. And then both balances will have officially checked him on this... and he still wont get it.

"Love" the minority opinion..
Quote:In doing so, the Court adds to the sad history of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was designed and understood to secure equal rights for the freed blacks but has instead been repurposed for political projects that the Reconstruction Congress did not support.

Jesus fucking Christ, WTG George! Thanks for this one, and your son for Alito.

Is this really THE BEST DISSENTING OPINION they could come up with?

"Well, you know, It's purpose was ONLY to integrate freed slaves into society and establish THEIR protection, but that doesnt mean the amemdment was to confirm that freed blacks are given the same protections as everyone, and that applies to EVERYONE born here."

It is like The Gaslight's Opinion, that tells you the majority opinion is really the one that is interpreting the 14th Amendment based on an underlying agenda.

But at least they didn't do the "historical test" logic this time!  Where it needs to be "deeply rooted in the nation's history and tradition" to apply 14th Amendment protection.

You mean like desegregated places? That was only made tradition and historical a few years earlier!

But hey, at least SCOTUS was slightly less unbearable this June.

* and while I really do support the transgender wholeheartedly to identify as they feel, I gotta point out that now the transgender female (athlete) really knows what it's like to have the interpretation of a single (different) clause be denied and left up to the state to decide for them instead... as a woman! Jus' sayin'

I would say it is a fairly good scorecard thus far. The election mailing thing is ridiculous. It basically allows an election to be permanent, and counting ballots up until a year after if malicious parties choose to the way they word it. "Oh six months later we just received 87,000 more ballots , we can just replace the Senator now."

I also think the Birthright citizenship thing for illegals /visa overstays should be abolished. Perhaps we can give it a shot in congress over the next couple of years. I doubt it will get there this year. But in all seriousness the Save America act needs passing before anything. I say Trump should Veto the housing bill until that is passed. We already have the committee in the House agreeing to stop any other agendas until it is resolved, so as long as they stick to their guns they cannot override the veto.

Depends on the wording.

if i was in congress i would vote for an amendment banning "birthright tourism" but would not support one for illegals.

Its too deeply rooted in our nation's history and tradition for immigrants (like at Ellis Island) to come without papers and immediately move to Brown Square and start popping out spoiled American Dream Children, or at least part of my family did. And then pissed off the Germans for being filthy WOPs that bred like rabbits. And later their descendants in turn thought the Puerto Ricans that came next were indeed the filthy ones.

So there, I am willing to apply the historical test. Because it really does pass and nothing really changes except who the filthy overbreeding immigrants are.
